Geography: Boscastle

Many floods are caused by rivers having too much water in them. Water flows over the top of the river bank and spreads over the surrounding land (flood plain).

River Floods are often caused by heavy rain. The soil and rock become filled with water, so that the rainfall can only flow over the land surface and straight into the river causing the level to rise very quickly.

In August 2004, the small fishing village of Boscastle in Cornwall had a severe flood which happened with little warning.

For this project you have to find out about the flood and write a newspaper report about it. Don't forget to look at the Boardworks Powerpoint on Flooding and River Management.
