GCSE Spanish
Spanish is a highly valued subject by Sixth Form Colleges and Universities and during the course, our objective is to enable our students to develop their Spanish language skills, whilst building upon knowledge from Key Stage 3. Learning languages is a skill for life and a very enjoyable and rewarding subject. Our GCSE Spanish qualification is focused on the important ways that languages foster communication, broaden perspectives, introduce new cultures and develop our students into global citizens.
The GCSE course continues the scheme of work followed in Year 7—9 and encompasses the following thematic contexts:

• Lifestyle and wellbeing
• My neighbourhood
• Media and technology
• Studying and my future
• Travel and tourism
Assessment
Paper 1: Speaking
Internally conducted and externally assessed:
Foundation tier: 7-9 minutes plus 15 minutes’ preparation time; 50 marks.
Higher tier: 10-12 minutes plus 15 minutes’ preparation time; 50 marks.
25% of the qualification.
Paper 1: Listening
Written examination:
Foundation tier: 45 minutes, including 5 minutes’ reading time, 50 marks.
Higher tier: 60 minutes, including 5 minutes’ reading time, 50 marks.
25% of the qualification.
Paper 3: Reading
Written examination:
Foundation tier: 45 minutes, 50 marks.
Higher tier: 60 minutes, 50 marks.
25% of the qualification.
Paper 4: Writing
Written examination:
Foundation tier: 1 hour 15 minutes; 50 marks.
Higher tier: 1 hour 20 minutes; 50 marks.
