Grow, learn, serve and pray in a Catholic community inspired by the Gospel message, enabling all to realise their unique hopes and potential.
“He has sent me to proclaim good news.”
- Luke 4:18
The mission of Catholic education is, and always has been, to lead people to their fullest potential, knowing that we are all unique children of God blessed with an abundance of talents and gifts.
Our mission at Christ the King, which is under review, is to provide all in our community with the experience of the Catholic faith, to learn about the values unique to our school and to put our faith into action through our words, prayers and actions.
Within our Mission Statement are the four pillars of our CTK Way: to grow, to learn, to serve and to pray. They are the foundation which we build our mission on, embedded in our Houses and our rewards and are lived out in our daily activities at school.
These values are underpinned by our CTK Way characteristics: confidence, resilience, ambition, independence, respect, courage, compassion, honesty.
“I was hungry and you gave me food,
I was thirsty and you gave me drink,
I was a stranger and you welcomed me,
I was naked and you clothed me,
I was sick and you visited me,
I was in prison and you came to me.
As you do this to one of the least of my brothers and sisters, you do it to me.”
- Matthew 25: 35-37, 40
Often called “the Church’s biggest secret” Catholic Social Teaching (CST) is how we live in community, loving our neighbours and caring for our environment. CST is what the Church has to say about social issues and the way in which our faith should be lived out in society. In a world that can seem broken and unjust, the principles of CST help us to follow our vocation to walk with Jesus by bringing justice, love and peace to others.
CST is evident through our prayers, our encouragement to action, our mission statement and our values. It also runs through our curriculum with connections made between lessons and the social teachings of the Church.
It is rooted in scripture and especially in the teachings of Jesus. Our aim is to make our school become a place where pupils are helped to put their faith into loving actions for others so they can illuminate life and society (Pope Francis, Lumen Fidei 55).
Human Dignity - What makes me special? What makes people special? How should we treat each other?
Solidarity - Who are our leaders? How do we stand with others? How did Jesus show service and justice? How do we help our neighbour?
Peace - Peace is the cornerstone of our faith and an ambition for all. How can we bring peace into our lives, promote peace with others and build a world where peace is the only option?
Common Good - What is ‘true community’? The common good is reached when we work together to improve the wellbeing of people in our society and the wider world. How do we respect all in our community?
Dignity of work and participation – How do we protect workers and ensure fair wages? How do ensure workers are respected and work for their vocation? How can we ensure all are treated equally and take part in society?
Sharing God's World, Protecting the Poor and Vulnerable - How do pupils share at home and at school? What are the kinds of things that are shared? Should everyone get exactly the same? Should some people get more? Why? For example, families with more children might need more resources, or someone with a disability might need extra help.
Caring for Creation and the Environment - How do I show respect for Creation? The earth and all life on it are part of God’s creation and we are called to respect this gift. We are responsible for taking care of the world we live in and for sharing all the wonders and resources the earth gives us.
