OVERVIEW
Psychology is the science of mind, behaviour and experience. It is a relatively new discipline which encompasses a wide range of approaches to understand different behaviours. We teach you a number of the main approaches to provide them with an insight into the discipline as a whole and to develop a greater understanding of their own behaviour in a variety of contexts.
STUDY
We use the AQA programme of study. The papers are split as follows for AS Level:
Paper 1: Introductory Topics in Psychology
Social Influence, Memory and Attachment.
Paper 2: Psychology in Context
Approaches in Psychology, Biopsychology, Psychopathology, Research Methods.
For the award of the full A Level, the papers are split as
follows:
Paper 1: Introductory Topics in Psychology
As above plus Psychopathology.
Paper 2: Psychology in Context
As above. Psychopathology is assessed on paper 1.
Paper 3: Issues and Options in Psychology
Relationships, Schizophrenia and Forensic Psychology
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
There are many different career opportunities within Psychology including Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology and Occupational Psychology. Since Psychology combines the development of understanding human behaviour with skills of analysis, interpretation and evaluation, it allows a number of skills to be transferred to other fields. This is an ever popular subject as it teaches you more about yourself and is certainly one of those subjects where the benefits match the effort that you put in.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
5 in English, 5 in Mathematics and 5 in a related subject preferably a Science subject.
